Tuberculosis: Behind the Numbers

This is a short documentary piece about TB survivor Bart Willems of Cape Town South Africa. I consider myself pretty lucky to have been contacted by Visual Epidemiology about this one. 

The interesting part of the story is that he recently broke the South African record for free diving. In his own words,

“It wasn't my clear intention to break it but I was going to see how far I could swim with one breath. So I took the biggest breath I've ever taken and submerged myself underwater.”

He came up at 114 meters setting a new record and breaking through his own limitations from the disease. Here's the clip from youtube of his dive.

 Here are a few before and after stills to show the grade. Its a subtle change but tied the whole thing together nicely.
